Italian Civil War
Re: Italian Civil War
The crisis concluded before a formal motion could reach the floor of the Oireachtas, the bulk of the Irish task force sails home in good spirits besides those poor souls of TF Northumbria, dreading the return to their patrols in the North Sea.

Most of the vehicles utilized by non-motorized forces are not indigenous to South Italy.

Re: Italian Civil War
The rise of an insurgent South Italian army posed a clear and obvious threat to the South Italian government. The forces of Democracy Firward! almost immediately engaged the Italian Red Army in Rome and other areas along the eastern coast as far south as Bari, their intent to overthrow the government apparent. The two armies clashed with one another in what one Italian Red Army commander called a "perpetual game of whack-a-mole" as towns were bypassed as non-hostile only to apparently spawn innumerable cells of militiamen and insurgents all too eager to sever supply lines and wreak havoc. The might of Italian airpower and navy did little to assist in this endeavor, as while the Italian Red Army often could pin the enemy down for moments, the time it took to organize an airstrike often meant the insurgents had time to slip away and disengage before the bombs could ever fall.
Before long, it became clear that Italy had grossly underestimated how large its foe had become, and how many soldiers - trained or not - that Democracy Forward! could muster in a short timespan. Rome became a battleground as insurgent artillery shelled the city, wrecking ancient suburbs and districts with an apparent disregard for history or civilian life. Reinforcing IRA units found themselves locked in battles with roving bands of insurgents that disrupted common supply routes and halted columns for hours in fruitless search of enemies. Sometimes, the insurgent armor and mechanized infantry emerged to fight a conventional battle, but the results were always unclear and ended after only a few hours or until Italian airpower arrived.
