Re: The United Nations

Post by Markus Wilding »

Atlanta notes that neither WEST or Aragon speak for the entirety of the affected nations, nor does it appear that the Austrian government has even petitioned WEST for intervention. Surely Czechia, which has just seen the conclusion of a violent war with Austria, is loathe to see further violence on its border especially as a large private military company has moved into the affected region with unknown intentions. Slovakia, Hungary, and Slovenia are reluctant to have a violent civil war with the capacity for greater violence on their immediate border. Regardless, to the SRA, the moral imperative is clear; the United Nations should intervene to halt the violence and support the freedom of the people from a dangerous civil war and an oppressive fascist state that could not even provide for its own defense.

Korea is in favour of a UNDF intervention, suggesting that the Aragon and Italian deployments already present could be rolled into the Defence Force's mission there. Korea also inquires in Madagascorp would be open to taking a contract from the UNDF to support its efforts.

The Madagascar National Government's representative forwards the request through Madagascorp then eventually towards Scar's Legionairres, and after a lengthy period replies that the Legionairres are open to discussing a defense contract. The representative for the Legionairres expresses their wishes that the conflict be brought to a swift conclusion, before outlining a rather expensive defense contract for the Legionairre's services.

The Korean representative notes the price is somewhat high, and points out that if the Legionnaires opt to remain with their current quote-unquote employers they may well find themselves opposing the UNDF; which, given the forces the organization in question can and often does deploy, is not what would typically be considered healthy nor conducive to longevity.

The rep does add that while he hopes the Legionnaires do not find themselves in a such a position, taking a contract - a more reasonably-priced one, to be specific - with the UNDF offers not only legitimacy but also consistent pay, not reliant on the nebulous and possibly lacking funds of anarcho-capitalist groups.

It is the opinion of Atlanta that Italy's deployment is wholly irresponsible and unnecessarily escalates an already tenuous situation. If the UNDF is to be effective and promote peace in the area, it must be a truly multinational effort that is not wholly dominated by a singular nation or armed force; to that end, we and a number of like-minded members would like to formally request that Italy draw down its deployment and adhere to UNDF protocols for the duration of the peacekeeping mission.

The representative for the Legionairres pauses for a few moments, before stepping out to make a call. Some ten minutes later, he returns offering a standard rate long-term contract with the Legionairres' own forces, and an additional short-term contract for co-operation with other elements called from the mercenary community, already present in the country. The representative assures his UN counsel that these elements can be convinced, but expresses the already sunk costs and their unwillingness to depart, ergo the large offers he presents.

The Korea representative indicates the offered contract is mostly acceptable in principle - though indicates he would prefer to speak to representatives for all the mercenary units in Austria affiliated with or known to the Legionnaires, to negotiate contract details.

The Legionairres representative obligingly goes through the process of establishing contact with the leaders of these more minor mercenaries, whose individual contract requests tend to either follow the same footsteps as the Legionairres contract or request larger sums than is typically appropriate for short term contracting.

Scar's Legionairres // 3 points armor, 5 points mech, 1 point fighters, 2 points helicopters.
Assorted Mercs, contracted // 2 armor, 12 arty, 2 light, 3 mech, 4 moto, 6 bombers, 10 fighters, 1 helo

"Irresponsible? Irre-fucking-sponsible?! Says the communist shithole using this UN conference to further spread their vile and dangerous ideology. Italy has a duty, not only to her people, but to the peace and stability of the entire Western European region as enshrined in the WEST treaty. If anything the SRA' being opportunistic vultures and petitioning the UN in bad faith is Irresponsible and unnecessarily escalates the situation, only to then go and interfere with the only goddamned nation trying to achieve actual lasting peace in the region. Have *you* started a peace conference? No. Now fuck off."

Italy moves to formally censure the SRA, enjoin them from further motions to the UN regarding the situation in Austria, and enact formal sanctions against the SRA and other CIS nations.

And back to what italy had intended to do here, italy invites the UN to select an observer to the peace conference held in Milan, stipulating that the observer should not be from the SRA, citing conflict of interest, nor from Victoria, citing the instability and belligerence of the nation's foreign policy.

The Korean representative agrees to hire on Scar's Legionnaires, alongside the various other units. Those units that charge abnormally high fees are likewise hired on, but informed their contracts will not be renewed after the initial period.

That done, the mercenary units - collectively dubbed the UNDF Auxiliary Force Austria - are given instructions to clear their current position - the airport in Vienna - and establish a UNDF safe zone to allow transport in and out of country for refugees, observers, and should the relevant votes pass UNDF intervention forces, with minimal interference.

-------

Korea notes the SRA's motions thus far regarding Austria have been entirely reasonable, and votes against the Italian measure of censure and enjoinment. Likewise, they cast a vote against the sanctioning of the SRA and CIS bloc, pointing out such actions are distinctly uncalled-for; and follows this by proposing a vote to censure Italy and enjoin them from UN votes regarding Austria, and demand the withdrawl of their military forces from the country.
