The Fate of New Spain (Aragon-Mexico)

Post by Avalanche »

Though her arrival had been announced and her mood known, and her approach to the throne room approved, the courtiers' fear was palpable when the doors were thrown open and an oppressive air of menace filled the hall. La Providència was here. Resplendent in her black-lacquered full plate harness, its intricate gold inlays shining blinding rays as they caught the light, she was flanked by a pair of similarly armoured knights and a section of legionnaires in their ornate dress uniforms, the polished wood furniture of their arms glimmering next to the dull shine of their finely blued metal. The only things perhaps more impressive was the brightness of the capes and cockades adorning the lot, or perhaps it was the magnitude of the malice plain on the diminutive monarch's face, but any contest was dashed by the calmness with which She then spoke.

"Xavier Leonardo de Habsburgo-Lorena, such baseness and incompetence as you have demonstrated is unacceptable for a sovereign and a Habsburg, a crime forgivable by only God Himself, and it has fallen upon us to see justice carried out. We demand your immediate abdication... You have the benefit of our doubt that there is ounce enough grace in your body to not necessitate this come to any bloodshed."

"Abdication?" Emperor Xavier spat. "Are you insane? Mexico will not have her internal affairs dictated by a European, not now nor ever. You will have to do much more than come to me with baseless threats to convince me that abdication is in the interests of Mexico."

"Your aggression against Sonora once again nearly brought the wrath of the great powers upon your land and your people, a pattern of behaviour that there is no reason to see will not continue, and eventually lead your nation to ruin. That is a fate we cannot allow, not for Mexico or your house."

"The Empire will stand strong regardless of threats from other countries. Is there a reason for your visit to my country beyond this grandstanding, or should I bid you good day at this point?"

Silence. La Provi carefully removed her hand from its rest atop the hilt of her sword, languidly dropping it to her side. Her entourage shifted in place, uneasy as they suspected what might come next. Stepping forward into a slow stride, her footfalls and the accompanying clinks of her shifting plate and maille were deafening. Her path was direct and unabridged, taking her right up to the Emperor. Were she not so short, it might have been a more intimidating gesture, but the fury in her eyes was now full and plain to see for him and him alone; the fiery daggers beneath, writhing and lashing, were barely contained and straining against the restraint imposed by the composure she maintained.

A leathery groan from her right gauntlet broke the silence, then, explosion; in an instant, drops of blood shot out as steel fist met fleshy face. The cocky Emperor fell to the floor from as much the shocking violence as the force of the punch, delivered by the well-honed body of a professional swordswoman as it was. His guards froze, eyes locked on the legionnaires as Aragonese weapons were trained on them. Disarmament was demanded, and the two imperial guards dropped their weapons.

"That was for your insolence," she spoke sourly at his crumpled form before turning to those behind her, "Guards, arrest this man." Her knights came upon him when the Emperor's own did not move and restrained and bound him. She addressed the aghast courtiers next, "Denounce this jester in a crown now or refuse to live to see Princess Isabel Maria ascend to the throne."

Mexico saved from itself, La Provi recommends that Xavierists and would-be pretenders to the throne be arrested and silenced to secure the impossibility of a viable uprising, and that she and her host will remain to see the Empress' coronation before awaying back to Europe.
