Re: The United Nations

Victoria rejects the call for ceasefire.

The Victorian representative puts forward that revolutionary communism, an ideology that calls for the death of monarchs and the violent spread of its system to other nations, will always be a destabilizing influence in the world. Nations, such as Victoria and India, cannot allow it to fester within their regions, for to do so would be to invite a direct existential threat to their own national well being. Regardless of a nation's position on the communist system of economics, none can deny that calling for the death of regional neighbours, or the violent spread of one's own ideology to their borders, is an inherent threat to peace.

As such, Victoria will continue to operate alongside India in restoring the security of the Arabian Sea, West Asia, and the Indian Ocean.

While not necessarily sharing the opinions of the entire Omani Communist Party's platform, the SRA does point out that the people's right to self-determination is important and clearly the Omani revolution came following a corrupt king abusing his power and people to the point that they felt violent revolution was their only solution. To that end, the SRA offers Atlanta as a neutral ground for the warring parties to come to a negotiated settlement regarding an end to the war and further bloodshed.

The Celtic Union supports the cease-fire and endorses the SRA's overtures, having no want to go to war at this time and being a sympathetic member of the communist cause. The representative also remarks that their task force would respect Korean escorts.

The Republic of China declares that it will offer conditional support for a cease-fire, provided that some sort of binding measure be put in place to prevent the Omani government from, quote, "indulging in state-sponsored regicide as a matter of foreign policy", reminding the assembly that the Chinese Communist Party's demand that most of the Republic of China's former leadership be tried and executed was one of the main factors driving earlier phases of the Chinese Civil War.

Victoria rejects the ability of communist bloc peacekeepers to conduct their mission in any sort of professional fashion. These nations would be allies to the Omani, and would do more to protect their cause than to limit their actions. If any peacekeeping force is to be dispatched, it must be a full UN peacekeeping force drawn from those with no particular animus or friendship for the Omani revolution.

All that said, the conflict cannot be put to rest until the root causes have been addressed. The murder of a monarch in cold blood demands justice. The Omani leaders who endorsed this action, and those who carried it out, must be extradited for trial. The Omani revolution must be disarmed and made harmless to those it would threaten in the region. Only then can the conflict truly be put to an end.

The Omani government freely offers to put forward known conspirators behind the death of the Omani king, but wholeheartedly rejects calls to disarm, unless the Kingdom of India does the same.

---

The Mexican representative pledges to lead the UN coalition. Sweden, Portugal, Chile, South Africa and Sumatra also pledge their assistance in keeping the peace.

---

The Kingdom of India rejects any further talk of peace deals or negotiations, and the representative storms out declaring the entire UN a "cabal of pinkos."

---

The Soviet Union and allied Commonwealth of Independent States members, Vietnam, the PRC and Bahrain support the Chinese measure and call for a cease-fire, despite Victorian protests. Germany, Panama, Austria, Argentina, Australia, Egypt, the Philippines, and Cascadia all declare their support for the cease-fire.

The delegate from the Republic of China notes, with an expression much resembling that of a child whose birthday cake has just fallen onto the floor. that there is little point to enforcing a cease-fire between two factions if one of the belligerents refuses to abide by it.

He also reminds the assembly that even if the Indian-Omani matter is settled, there is still the fact that while they weren't looking, Iran has somehow managed to provoke Victoria onto the edge of war.
