"Don't think of it as law enforcement, sir, think of it as aggressive recon. We've ID'ed some anarcho-syndicalist outposts here, and here, in the north. I'm ordering my men tomorrow to seek out other potential problem areas and catalog them, if you guys want to figure out a response afterwards, go for it. My men are only firing if fired upon first. We expect to encounter mostly Jackals and maybe some War Brides, nothing more serious than that. My SIGINT guys will keep in contact with your forces and we'll let you know if we find anything."

"We'll be letting the locals make the calls on our follow-ups," Xue Yue added. "It's their city, and they know the ground better than we do, and we need to figure out how steady they are on patrol. I'll make sure to make our assessments available to your staffs. I'll be brigading my recon company armoured cars into a single flying column. They're on call if any of you need something with more punch."

Week 2

With the Iranian no-fly zone in effect, the UN supply is briefly interrupted, until Azerbaijan and Georgia permit UN convoys to move critical supplies overland and then take responsibility for shipping them to Atyrau and Aqtau. Soviet troops take the lead in ensuring the port in Atyrau is secure, while Portuguese troops escort convoys through fascist and monarchist territory once they leave the British zone.

German forces in Oral report that the Jackals have been nearly cleared from the city, but they have faced setbacks from local officials that are reportedly protecting notable individuals. Requests for assistance from the Kazakh government go unanswered.

Portuguese highway patrol continues to rub Kazakh policemen the wrong way, and they express their frustrations with the Portuguese with both the forces themselves and the UN. They claim the Portuguese are overzealous in their methods, and this is causing conflict between the Kazakh police and the civilians.

Mexican forces in Qyzylorda claim they have been fired upon by Socialist Resistance forces. Syrian infantry in the same city report that the Kings of Kazakhstan have apparently started executing known Socialist Resistance members in the streets. Mostly due to Mexican pressure, the Mexican and Syrian forces have begun engaging the Socialist Resistance's base of power in Qyzylorda.

Nur Otan requests a ceasefire from Victoria, promising it will not engage Victorian troops so long as Victoria will not negotiate a similar deal with the Communists.

SRA, Chinese and Korean patrols in the capital do not uncover any known Socialist Resistance cells. There are, however, numerous Jackal pockets which open fire on incoming patrols whenever they get near. Nur Otan cells are contained to the south, intermixed with communist blocks that are on the knife's edge of getting into a gunfight. Stuck between them is a cell of the Kings of Kazakhstan, trying to scrape out survival.

The north is quiet. The anarcho-syndicalists have not fired a shot in two weeks.

The War Brides, upon becoming legitimate, cease their illegal activities and begin helping people through any means necessary. They even attempt to help enforce the law on the highways, though both the Kazakh and Portuguese highway patrolmen would prefer they didn't have their help. For the most part, their profits seem to be growing as even the Kazakh government admits they are starting to do some good.

In the skies above Kazakhstan.
"They said this would derail peace keeping efforts? THEY ALREADY DERAILED PEACEKEEPING EFFORTS." Captain Hamid yelled.
Depressingly, there were no enemies as yet to shoot.

It was still fun to fly.

Colonel al Daimon refused the offer from the fascist leadership. Her stance was clear: So long as any militia force was engaging in combat and disrupting the peace, they were a valid target for Victorian forces.

The War Brides are provided with whatever equipment they require, and tasked with escorting the Victorian Red Cross in its missions of mercy throughout Kazakhstan. The goal of all War Bride operations is now to spread good will.

A detachment of Victorian Pacification forces is dispatched toward the capital where their artillery opened on what was believed to be a Jackals facility. It was only later determined that they had shelled the SRA's HQ with white phosphorous munitions.

In the wake of the extremely unfortunate breakdown in communications which led to the recent SRA-Victorian friendly fire incident, General Xue Yue suggests that the Kazakh government open formal negotiations with the War Brides and their Victorian backers, to more closely coordinate pacification efforts and to avoid such tragic accidents in future.

The day had started off relatively normally for the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions in Kazakhstan - wake up, grab weapons and gear, go out on patrol into the city. They were going to actually get started on their job of keeping the peace and figuring out where their foes actually were in order to destroy them.

For Sergeant O'Dowell, it was a chance to finally get some action. He'd been wanting to start actually doing something in the meanwhile, not just sitting around camp doing fuck-all. He had just finished up the usual fare of beans and motherfuckers from his unit, about to whip up an Army mochaccino from the coffee and cocoa powder when the uncomfortably familiar sound of a heavy mortar firing caught his attention. This sound was not lost on the other men in his unit, and they silently wondered if the Koreans had gotten a bit too gun-happy for a second.

At least, they did until the first rounds impacted their position. Hank watched a shell slam right into a tent, throwing noxious Willy Pete smoke everywhere and annihilating whatever was left of the tent. The horrific screams filled the air next when those unlucky enough not to have been killed by the initial blast ran about, trying fruitlessly to pat away the flames. Before he was even conscious of it, he was running. Where to, he didn't exactly know, but anywhere had to be better than right in the middle of a killzone. Another shell struck the command tent, no doubt killing any of the signalmen inside. Wait, shit, that was the General's tent, if they didn't have the general...

He was shoved forward by someone else, a rough voice shouting at him to keep moving unless he wanted to die. Hank didn't need any further encouragement. He and however many others - scattered remnants of a division that had just been hit by a salvo of heavy mortars and guns - dispersed like ants from the camp, trying to figure out what in the world had just happened. Hank turned around to see that the General had been the one to shove him forward, profusely bleeding from a hole in his arm.

"Well, hell, I think we just got a proper Kazakh welcome," the General said, rather calmly given the situation.

A message was sent indicating the Kazakh government was open to discussions with the War Brides, but stressed that future blue-on-blue incidents simply could not occur under any circumstances.

Week 3

Mexican forces are routed from Qyzylorda. Syrian forces withdraw entirely, declaring the cost of keeping the peace in Kazakhstan is not worth the cost in Syrian lives, especially when they doubt the veracity of initial Mexican reports that the Socialist Resistance opened fire first. Qyzylorda, for now, is ceded fully to the Socialists as Mexican forces retreat to the capital to rest and resupply.

The War Brides begin patrolling the highways alongside Portuguese and Kazakh highway patrol. The Kazakh highway patrolmen are less than enthused, and the Portuguese do not particularly trust the War Brides.

Fascist forces in the south disengage from combat with the Communists, even as Communist militias continue to overrun their posts. PRC forces, more often than not, place themselves in between fascist and communist forces, and claim that they are ensuring continued peace remains

In Oral, German forces find themselves under attack by a fascist cell. It seems their existence was well-hidden until a German patrol stumbled upon their hideout.

Near the border at North Kaz, fascist forces begin engaging anarcho-syndicalist forces. Simultaneously, the government launches a military campaign against monarchist and fascist forces between Qyzylorda and the western half of Kazakhstan.

The SRA, Korea and China begin patrols in Shymkent. American forces are fired upon almost immediately upon entering the fascist part of the city, and the same happens when Korean and Chinese patrols arrive. Korean forces find themselves engaged when they near the monarchist hideout. Chinese forces are engaged by a group of Jackals and an unknown element - they evade pursuit almost the second the Chinese begin firing back.

Reports come in that Communist and Socialist militias in Atyrau, Oral, the south, and Qyzylorda have begun digging in, apparently attempting to hold their ground.

---

"I thought we were going to, like, wait for the Victorians to kill the commies for us," Trooper Yerdo Konakbaev said, racking the bolt back on his rifle. Fully loaded, just like always. Today was a grand day, or so the lieutenant said.

"Yeah," Sergeant Mukanov replied. The two of them were shadowing a Victorian vehicle, which itself was escorting a convoy headed from Aqtau. Within about a kilometer, Sergeant Mukanov said, the Victorians would stop since they would reach the end of their patrol zone. After that, the fate of the convoy was in the hands of the Portuguese. "This convoy's too good of an opportunity, though."

The day was clear, with barely a cloud in the sky. They had a grim mission ahead of them - Yerdo did not personally agree with it - if anything he was glad the Victorians were knocking sense into the fascists and commies - but when the Sergeant and Lieutenant said to do something, he was not going to make waves. Their little truck trundled and bounced along, jostling them with every rough patch on the road.

"Alright, remember," Sergeant Mukanov replied, turning back to look at the squad. "Everything's fucking normal, got it? Shokay, you've got to be quick deploying that MG, understand?"

"Don't shoot until Mukanov shoots!" the driver shouted back, a Sergeant Otemisuly.

Yerdo sighed, steeling himself. This was the first time since the UN arrived that he had had to fire his weapon in anger. Usually, he just had a pistol, but by now the government decided their highway police needed more firepower, and Swedish-built semi-automatic rifles became the normal weapon. Shokay had a machine gun built in Egypt. The only thing they could call Kazakh was their uniform. He looked forward just in time to see the Victorian truck slow down. The Victorians jumped off, heading out to secure the area from potential fascist or communist incursions.

"They're stopping," the driver said.

"Dismount," Sergeant Mukanov ordered.

They filed out of the truck, hopping out the back and keeping their weapons low. A wind blew across the plain they had stopped at, making the grass dance and wave. The Victorians had their backs to them - of course they did. They expected Yerdo and his squad to have their backs. Sergeant Mukanov gestured for them to spread out, about four or five meters between them. Once he had gotten the appropriate distance away, the Portuguese began to arrive. Just in time.

Yerdo centered his rifle's sights on a Victorian soldier's back just as the Sergeant opened fire.

Outrage spread through Victoria in the wake of news that Kazakh Highway Patrol had murdered Victorian soldiers. Victoria's peacekeepers began arresting Highway Patrol officers on sight, while the Victorian delegation in the capital petitioned for the Highway Patrol to be relieved of duty, and their responsibilities split between the War Brides and Portuguese.

The Pacification Squads disengaged from the fascist militias in the south, as those disengaged from combat. They turned their full attention to the communists who were still fighting. The element of the Pacification Squads that had moved north toward the capital shifted further toward the conflict between the fascist and anarchist forces, engaging the northern fascist groups.
