Cree

Post by Markus Wilding »

The fear of SRA invasion was incredibly well-founded. The West had not seen fit to meddle with affairs, while to the Cree's east, the SRA continually expanded, gobbling up country after country with nobody seemingly able to oppose them. A summit with neighboring Dakota had gone nowhere, and for now at least, it looked like Cree stood alone as the specter of war crossed over the midwest. The feeble democracy didn't need to be a cabal of geniuses to know they were probably next.

The only question was when, and if the SRA would overcome them, or if this was where the SRA would finally get bogged down.

Re: Cree

General Joseph Markwardt had been right when he predicted his army would be deployed against Cree.

What he had not expected was to be fighting alongside men he derisively referred to as "overzealous policemen" in the form of the National Guard.

The Army had made it clear - destroy the enemy immediately, and ensure that the resistance would be short-lived for the post-war reconstruction. Thus, with a mass of infantry armed to the teeth with modern weapons against a force that increasingly to the General looked like a bunch of WWI reenactors, the SRA invaded once more.

After an hours-long bombardment, the Socialist Republic Army crossed the border, immediately into a heavy minefield. Their progress in dismantling it was immediately checked by well-sited machine guns that prevented easy demining, as well as a heavy aerial bombardment that persisted even with American jet fighters overhead contesting the skies. General Markwardt was nothing if not determined, however, and he forced the National Guard across - much to the consternation of the commander - open field to demine the field the easy way. An American counter-barrage from the air and land made sure that the lanes were open after the National Guard sacrificed itself, and for another month they slogged through the area, securing town after town until finally, Missouri and Iowa were declared secured on February 8th, 1963.

For now, at least, with the enemy so rapidly and thoroughly decimated, the SRA could breathe easy. General Markwardt had not disappointed, but men under his command began to wonder if they would be next to be ordered to march across an enemy minefield.

OOC: The SRA deployed 4 units motorized infantry, 8 units artillery, 1 unit light infantry, 9 units fighters, and 2 units bombers to Territory 26. Defending this for Cree is 2 units armor, 2 units artillery, 3 units motorized infantry, 1 unit light infantry, 1 unit bombers, and 4 units fighters.

Autocombat was used for this round.

In their attacks, the SRA rolled a 6 and a 4 for ground and air actions, respectively. This results in 3 units ground losses, 4 units ground damages, 3 units air losses, and 4 units of air damages for Cree. A bombing campaign resulted in 4 Industry lost, 2 units of ground losses, 6 Industry damaged and 3 units of ground damages.

In their attacks, Cree rolled a 2 and a 1 for ground and air actions, respectively. This results in 2 units of ground losses, 2 units of ground damages, 2 units of air losses, and 2 units of air damages. A bombing campaign resulted in 1 unit of ground losses and 1 unit of ground damages.

All Cree units in Territory 26 have been lost.

The SRA took the following casualties;
1 unit light infantry lost
2 units motorized infantry lost
3 units artillery damaged
2 units fighters lost
2 units bombers damaged

Re: Cree

The end of Cree came with a highly destructive wave, rather than with a whimper as had been expected by the Socialist Republic.

Cree's capital of Wichita became a hellish landscape for the advancing American forces, caught between prepared defensive lines and guerrilla warfare experts that sought to decimate the American military piecemeal. The favored Cree tactic was to hug American columns, where their artillery and airpower couldn't be used for fear of hitting friendly troops. In the mass, confused combat, maneuver warfare became the norm as the two forces sought to outplay and outwit the other at every opportunity - this came primarily to the forefront as American artillerymen found themselves engaged by enemy infantry more often than not, forcing them to pick up their heavy, cumbersome M14 rifles or rely on the underpowered M1 Carbine to defend themselves. If they were lucky, one of the nearby sergeants had a submachine gun, or an infantry unit was nearby to assist.

Regardless, the two sides traded artillery fire, bombing runs, and firefights daily. Combat raged for no less than four months, all centered around securing the capital and its government buildings with American forces slowly surrounding the city, arresting members of the Cree government until one by one they could no longer find anyone willing to fill the positions.

On June 8th, 1963, the Socialist Republic Army launched a final assault on the capital building. After a 50-hour firefight with Cree forces, the capital was declared secure, and all former Cree government officials, under General Markdwardt's orders, were to be tried as war criminals. What laws of war they had violated, not even his staff knew. Either way, he was on national and international television the next day, declaring that anyone who supported the Cree government in the new American states would be swiftly and harshly tried under military law.

For yet another nation, the specter of the SRA had fallen over their lands.

OOC: Autocombat was used for this round.

In their attacks, the SRA rolled a 4 and a 4 for ground and air actions. This results in 4 units of ground losses, 5 units of ground damages, 3 units of air losses, and 4 units of air damages for Cree. A bombing campaign resulted in 4 Industry lost, 2 units of ground losses, 6 Industry damaged and 3 units of ground damages.

In their attacks, Cree rolled a 7 and 1 for ground and air actions. This results in 1 unit of ground losses, 1 unit of ground damages, 2 units of air losses, and 2 units of air damages. A bombing campaign resulted in 1 unit of ground losses and 1 unit of ground damages for the SRA.

Cree does not have enough points to sustain all casualties and thus they have been defeated militarily.

The SRA took the following casualties:

2 units artillery lost
2 units artillery damaged
2 units fighters lost
2 units fighters damaged
