Chinese Civil War

Post by Markus Wilding »

A message was sent to the Republic of China's foreign ministry;
To whom it may concern,

With no political or diplomatic recourse left to us, we have no choice but to use force to reassert our sovereignty and seize back our territory. If the Republic does not seek war, she can withdraw from the illegally seized territory. Until then, a state of war will exist between the Republic and our nation.

- Republic of Zhejiang Foreign Ministry
---

Hours before the first movements were made, the Republic of China's OTH radar found itself blinded. Initially, it was believed to be operator error, perhaps down for maintenance. However, the act of sabotage soon became clear when panicked transmissions told tales of being attacked by unknown forces that had breached the perimeter. Equally confused transmissions informed anyone who was listening that the base security was not to be trusted.

---

November 8th, 1962

From the south, Vietnamese armor and infantry crossed the Chinese-Vietnamese border, quickly crossing into Guangxi and seizing the factories there. Propaganda troops began setting up shop shortly after, informing the populace that the area was now under the control of the People's Army of Vietnam, and that their occupation would be short and non-intrusive. The forces here in Guangxi did not stay for long - they had somewhere else to be.

Namely, they had to support an amphibious landing that was ongoing on the early morning hours of the 8th in Guangdong. The Vietnamese and Republic of Zhejiang were apparently cooperating to invade China, supporting one another's efforts as best they could with a dual amphibious invasion ongoing. One was focused in the south at Guangdong, while the other was in full strength at the former capital of Zhejiang itself.

A naval blockade was forthcoming, coupled with naval gunfire to support the landings on Guangdong and Zhejiang provided by the firepower of the combined Vietnamese-Zhejiang navies. Chinese shipping found itself quickly interdicted as submarines began to wreak havoc, destroying Chinese-flagged vessels well beyond any territorial waters. The Pacific Ocean would not be safe for long.

Overhead, planes with the Vietnamese roundel and marked with the Republic of Zhejiang's flag flew overhead, escorting bombers that began to engage not just Chinese planes on the ground and running patrols in the air, but also escorting bombers that cratered runways and decimated the few logistical routes in the area, as well as attacking industrial centers in the affected areas.

OOC:

AS18 (Republic of Zhejiang) and AS19 (Socialist Republic of Vietnam) are now at war with Cataphrak (Republic of China). AS18 will attack any Chinese territory, but will seek to occupy and take only 234 and 235. AS1 will attack any Chinese territory, but does not seek territorial gains and will not occupy unless needed to pursue the end of the war.

The following points were deployed to the following locations:

AS18 deployed 5 units of mechanized infantry, 4 units of artillery, 2 units of motorized infantry, and 1 unit of armor to Territory 236.
AS19 deployed 1 unit armor, 5 units motorized infantry, and 4 units artillery to Territory 237, and then to Territory 236 as no resistance was encountered in Territory 237.

AS18 deployed 4 units of motorized infantry, 2 units of artillery, and 1 unit of armor to Territory 234.

AS18 deployed 5 units of fighters and 2 units of bombers to Territory 236.
AS19 deployed 4 units of ifghters and 2 units of bombers to Territory 236.

AS18 deployed 3 units of fighters and 1 units of bombers to Territory 234.

AS18 deployed 1 unit Warships, Heavy, 1 unit Warships, Medium and 1 unit Warships, Light to support landings in Territory 234.
AS19 deployed, 1 unit Warships, Medium, and 1 unit Warships, Light to support landings in Territory 236.
Actions Taken:

AS18 and AS19 are conducting a joint land-amphibious invasion of Territory 236. This invasion is being supported by artillery, airpower and naval gunfire.

AS18 is conducting an amphibious invasion of Territory 234. This invasion is being supported by airpower and naval gunfire.

AS18 and AS19 have submarines actively engaging Chinese-flagged shipping vessels in open water.

The Republic of China was not able to see the incoming invasion due to Republic of Zhejiang sabotage efforts, resulting in the OTH radars in Territory 236 to become Damaged. They will need to be repaired before they can have an effect.

Due to having no forces in Territory 237, China has lost control of the Industry there as enemy forces passed through it - Cataphrak now has Contested Control over the territory in question.

A message was sent to all involved parties from the State Department.
In the interests of peace and security, the Socialist Republics of America is deploying assets to the area to ensure that the regional conflict does not grow. The American people are hopeful that a peaceful resolution, such as one that can come with the return of the Republic of Zhejiang's rightful provinces, can be reached. However, we recognize active combat is ongoing. We hope that involved combatants will not fire upon American ships, with the implicit warning that should any harm come to American sailors or ships, a response will be forthcoming.
And thus, the SRA's First Fleet deployed to the South China Sea.

The National Revolutionary Army had been waiting for an attack from the sea.

The instant the alert went out, forces in Fujian and Zhejiang were stood up and prepared for action. In Guangdong, the capital and Hong Kong garrisons took action immediately.

What they weren't expecting was the attack from the south.

Vietnam was not considered a threat. For those watching their antiquated tanks rolling past, perhaps they still didn't look like one. But obsolete tanks were still better than none at all, and once the border guards in Guangxi realised what was going on, they followed the new doctrine which had come from headquarters in Guangzhou, and melted into the jungle, daring the cumbersome advance columns of the Vietnamese force to follow them at their peril.

They didn't.

The Military Affairs Commission moved quickly. The last time the Republic was invaded, the country had been divided, the army had been poorly trained and ill-equipped. Neither of these things were true now.

Forces from rear areas were quickly shifted to face the two-pronged assault. Shore batteries rained fire on the oncoming Zhejiang ships. The skies over Guangzhou and Zhejiang filled with the trails of surface-to-air missiles.

...and in Taipei, the skies darkened with the shadows of heavy bombers.
OOC Summary wrote: All forces in Guangdong (236) benefit from fortified command centre.
All RoC forces now benefit from new doctrine, as disseminated from new Advanced War College.
All forces benefit from Korean naval and air support.

Forces in Guangdong (236) are to remain in place. They consist of the following:
2 pts Armour
1 pt Artillery
2 pts Mechanised Infantry
6 pts Light Infantry

Forces from Fujian (235) are moving south to reinforce Guangdong. They consist of the following:
2 pts Armour
4 pts Artillery
2 pts Mechanised Infantry
2 pts Motorised Infantry

Forces remaining in Zhejiang (234) consist of:
2 pts Armour
4 pts Artillery
2 pts Mechanised Infantry
2 pts Motorised Infantry

Aircraft deployments are as follows:
Guangdong (236)
10 pts fighters (Air superiority)

Zhejiang (234)
4 pts fighters (Air superiority)
5 pts bombers (Close air support)

Taiwan (304)
2 pts fighters (Escort)
5 pts bombers (strategic bombing)

A diplomatic message was sent from Victoria to the Republic of Zhejiang. It stated: “You were told to surrender or face Judgment. You have chosen Judgment. Sorrow be upon you, tragedy be upon your people. We are coming.”

A second message was sent to the Republic of China, informing them of Victoria’s intention to provide aid.

A final message was sent to Vietnam: “Your dedication to a friend is laudable. The fate that will befall Zhejiang will not befall Vietnam so long as you do not take up arms against Victoria.”

Victorian naval assets were dispatched from the Indian Ocean to engage RoZ forces in the open seas. The Victorian ships provided escort for the Chinese shipping that was being attacked and harassed, while Victorian submarines hunted for their counterparts from Zhejiang.

Victorian Royal Army Pilot Service units were flown over from Africa, refueling midair, to reach bases in China in order to provide assistance to the Chinese airforce.

OOG-
Deploying:
2 units of conventional submarines
2 units of Medium Warship
1 unit of Light Warships
1 unit of Heavy Warships
1 unit of Heavy Carriers
2 units of Fighters (Air Superiority)

Naval tactics are to provide escort to civilian shipping. Victorian submarines are split between escorting the surface combatants and hunting Zhejiang subs.

Victoria is only engaging Zhejiang’s forces.

A message was relayed to Zhejiang;
Per the 1958 BEATINGS treaty, a state of war now exists between the Republic of Zhejiang and the Republic of Korea. Until the surrender of Zhejiang to the Republic of China, this state of affairs will persist.
Naval and air forces deployed rapidly; leaving escort duty to the Victorian forces, Korean ships deployed aggressively, moving to disrupt and cut off the landings in Zhejiang province. Supply ships, warships, Zhejiang-flagged merchants; all were marked as targets.

Aircraft lifted from their bases, heading towards Taiwan; there, their targets would be port facilities and airfields, aiming to cripple the enemy's supply lines and airpower further.

In the end, conflict between the two Chinas would have happened eventually.

The People's Republic of China sent a strongly-worded letter to the UN condemning it for its lack of rectification measures taken to prevent this war from happening in the first place, alongside a declaration that it would be intervening directly to assist the Republic of Zhejiang in restoring its rightful borders.

Therefore, Korean ships were more or less shadowed by PLN warships, until fired upon at the last possible moment. A veritable horde of PLA infantry crossed the border into Zhejiang to engage in a war of assistance - though how long this assistance would remain at the hands of helping fellow Chinese, and whether it would turn into taking over the area for the Communist Party of China was up in the air. Meanwhile, Chinese aircraft screamed over the skies.

The Republic of China was not the only one with grand plans.

OOC: A state of war exists between the AS30 (People's Republic of China), Cataphrak (Republic of China) and Alucard Tobor (Korea).

AS30 has deployed 10 units of motorized infantry, 5 units artillery, 2 units armor, and 1 unit light infantry to Territory 234.
AS30 has deployed 7 units fighters and 1 units bombers to Territory 234.
AS30 has deployed 3 units Warships, Heavy, 1 unit Carriers, Fleet, 5 units Warships, Medium, 3 units Warships, Light and 3 units Fighters to engage Korean naval units in the South China Sea.

Standing orders were sent to forces in Zhejiang, now stuck between an invasion from the sea, and one from the land:
"The Spirit of the Sihang Warehouse lives within you. Fight when you can. Retreat when you must. Live to fight another day. Help is coming."

When reports from the front indicated it was time, Catharine gave the order for Judgment to be rendered. The full force of Victoria’s bombers was focused on the island of Taiwan in unending waves of incendiary attack. The Seraphim made run after run, until the island was reduced to ash and ember. During the attack they broadcast one word again and again.

“Glory Glory Glory”
