The United Nations

Post by Alucard Tobor »

Despite the somewhat discontent agreements made previously, the first proper gathering of the United Nations General Assembly was reasonably smooth; with a dedicated building under construction in Seoul (and subtle nudges provided to the other Guiding Council members that they were welcome to build equivalents, to be rotated between) the previous location was employed once more; the only alteration being a shifting of tables to seat the Council in the center, leaving the rest to scrutinize from all sides.

Prime Minister Rho rose as the representatives finished settling themselves in, glancing around. "As it appears we are all present, let us begin. Firstly, the representatives of the French Republic have asked to make a statement to this Assembly. Ambassador?" he finished, nodding to the Frenchman and taking his seat.

"Honorable friends, esteemed guests and allies to freedom and democracy, the French nation is under attack by the Communists. The Communists have split out nation in half, and we are threatened by their brutal attacks daily. Without aid, which we have been graciously provided by our Spanish friends, we may face catastrophic defeat and starvation the likes of which have not been seen since the Nazi occupation. We desperately plead for any form of assistance that may be rendered to us."

The French Commune, without much in the way of grandstanding, provides evidence that appears to show that the French Republic fired the first shots, showing that Republican border guards destroyed a Communist checkpoint with "overwhelming" artillery fire and executed unarmed border officials. Naturally, the Republic denies that this is truthful evidence and derides it as Communist propaganda.

---

Vietnam, Honduras, Bahrain, Yemen, Fezzan, Agadez, Liberia, Cameroon, the Socialist Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Cordobo, the Andean Commune, Amazonas, Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, Pomerania, Moldova, the Socialist Republic of Lviv, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Hawaii, the People's Republic of China, and the Soviet Union with its representative states believe the French Commune's evidence and call for sanctions or action against the French Republic.

---

Ireland, Spain, Germany, the Kingdom of Italy, the Republic of Zhejiang and Georgia do not accept the French Commune's evidence as legitimate, and call for action against the Communists.

---

All others not mentioned do not feel particularly swayed one way or the other.

Rho stood "Very well. With both involved parties having presented their cases, who among us feels that this body should intervene in this conflict?"

Victoria's delegate stood and spoke, "Regardless of whether this body intervenes, Victoria will be ensuring that peace is restored. We vote in the affirmative for a United Nations action."

With the Romanian Communist Party staunchly against the Republic, the Christian Alliance strongly against the Commune, and the PGAP strongly against violence of any kind, Romania votes no to interference in France either way.

Faced with one of its "illegitimate bandit-state" enemies taking one side, and another taking the second, the Republic of China's position oscillated between "We should not get involved" and "bomb them all and let Guanyin sort them out."

Finally, after a lengthy conference with their counterparts in Guangzhou, the RoC voted yes in intervention, provided that it favoured neither party.

The Socialist Republics of America wishes to clarify how exactly the United Nations intended to intervene, wondering if the UN would attempt to impose a haphazard political arrangement on an internal French issue.

Clarification would be provided, indicating the UNDF would impose a ceasefire and demilitarized zone between the two powers until an agreement to permanently end hostilities could be made; should either involved party make a direct attack on aforesaid UNDF forces, retaliatory strikes against the offending nation's military and military infrastructure would be conducted in whatever manner the local commander/s would see fit.

Begrudgingly, the SRA votes in favor of intervention, noting that Atlanta would much prefer to see a diplomatic solution to the issue rather than military force utilized - especially on the part of the UN.
