Re: Soviet-Russian Empire War

War between the two Russias was inevitable, in a way. Both claimed lineage to previous Russian states with equal legitimacy, with the Imperialists claiming they had a true Romanov while the Moscow-based USSR posited its Politburo was a direct legacy of Kruschev's leadership. Suspicion and mutual mistrust between the two Russian powers led to an increasing amount of fortifications in and around Smolensk as well as a building on the border.

Moscow, however, would take no chances. A massive artillery barrage signaled the beginning of the war as Soviet troops crossed the border at early light on a cool July morning. A massive Soviet army followed initial VDV attacks made by helicopter over the Imperial lines and deep into Imperial territory intent on causing enough chaos to disrupt mainline defenses. Soviet motorized infantry worked in conjunction with armor and mechanized forces to pin down Imperial troops in a pocket as Soviet Air Force jets screamed overhead, dropping bombs and clashing with the already rather lively Imperial Air Force. The Imperalists, however, knew well such an attack would be incoming and fought a bitter delaying action to slow the advance of the Soviet military. The Imperial military may not have been as up-to-date or large as its Soviet counterparts, but the Imperial Army more than made up for this by willing to stand and fight for every inch of ground. So long as an Imperial soldier lived, vowed one unknown general, St. Petersburg would not fall.

OOC: The USSR moves the following units from 186 to 183:
2 units artillery
2 units armor

The USSR moves the following units from 187 to 183:

2 units helicopters

Korean units arrived with minimal fanfare; entirely expecting to be stuck into combat from the word go, they instead found the Soviets had fallen back across the border; opting to de facto accept a ceasefire, apparently. Nonetheless wary that such a state of affairs might persist, the Korean UNDF detachment shook out into positions along the border, joining Russian units in place and establishing lines of defence, areas of responsibility, and communications.

2nd Air Division, their usual tail codes replaced with a prominently-displayed "UN", arrived shortly thereafter; a small flock of transport aircraft following along with munitions and supplies until sea routes could catch up. Taking up CAP duties, 14 Night Attack Squadron and their Aardvarks were kept on their airfield with 4 aircraft always ready for a quick launch - the armament of which the aircrews and ground crews flatly refused to discuss.

The newly-arrived Korean units were soon followed by a vast fleet of transport helicopters bearing the white sun on blue sky of the National Revolutionary Army and fresh UNDF markings, landing gingerly on Western Russian fields to disgorge rapidly deploying swarms of men and vehicles. Barely-patrolled stretches of the pre-war Imperial-Soviet border suddenly bristled with the guns of infantry fighting vehicles and armoured cars, even as the infantry of the 3rd "Chindit" Division established strong points, secondary lines of defence, communications bunkers, and infiltration tunnels around them.

Liaison officers from the 1st and 4th Commando Brigades were already waiting for them, with scouting reports, situation assessments, and pots of hot tea, made Russian style from samovars which... must have come from somewhere. Nobody was quite sure how the special forces operators had gotten there before the air cavalry. Perhaps they had hitched a ride with the Koreans? Perhaps they had disguised themselves as Imperial or Soviet troops? Perhaps they had simply used their dark commando magic to teleport bodily from their bases?

Whatever the method, the men of the Chindits knew better than to pry. They knew they'd sleep more soundly if they never found out.
