Rocky Mountain Confederation

The Rocky Mountain Confederation, since its inception, primarily meant to keep to itself and stay uninvolved in world affairs. After all, being landlocked and surrounded by states that were just emerging from the German Flu did not make a nation particularly influential in international politics, even when the new neighbors who weren't currently experiencing a massive outbreak had issues of there own that caused Denver to look twice.

However, with the SRA advancing farther and farther West with the passing years, military spending increased rapidly until it matched the resurgent Communist republic. Surveillance was almost constant on the border between the two, where Rocky Mountain citizens were warned not to cross the border for fear of being arrested by draconian SRA police officers and Victorian military police.

Of course, the growing SRA and Victorian armies on the border were impossible to ignore.

At dawn on April 8th 1965, Operation Open House began for the SRA. It began with a massive aerial and artillery bombardment, served by the SRA's bomber corps and artillery. Tube and rocket artillery combined in an hour-long assault, which covered an incoming incursion under the artillery fire that crossed the border as American bombers and fighters worked in conjunction to destroy and suppress enemy air defenses that had been identified by satellite recon. Meanwhile, American signals troops immediately began jamming enemy communications as they slipped fake messages into the enemy's communications, impersonating units that didn't currently have access to the broader network. As this was ongoing, SRAAF planes outfitted with anti-radiation missiles and iron bombs conducted SEAD missions, paving the way for the bombers and incoming airborne assault over Wyoming.

The SRA's ground assault took a two-pronged approach, with the army divided into the 1st and 2nd Field Armies heading north into Wyoming and Montana, while the 3rd and Reserve Field Armies drove for Colorado and New Mexico. Progress was expected to be limited, with a modest pace of only about 100 miles anticipated and demanded of the invading Socialist Republics. The plan was deceptively simple - commit the heavier-armed forces up front, identify key pockets of Rocky Mountain resistance, and encircle the pockets to annihilate it with overwhelming artillery fire and airstrikes. Anything that could not be destroyed with second echelon forces was subjected to immediate and constant artillery fire, owing to the absurd amount of artillery utilized in the Socialist Republic Army.

Likewise, bombing campaigns began almost immediately, targeting the Rocky Mountain's industrial capacity, airbases, and other targets deemed of strategic importance like government facilities, army bases, and supply lines that the SRA did not expect to use. Railroads were also targeted, judged as fair game for strategic and tactical bombing.

Following quickly in the wake of the SRA's advance, assuming it was not halted elsewhere, were men of the SRA's propaganda corps. These soldiers wielded not rifles, but cameras and scripts, filming everything they could for the people back at home - and worldwide, if anybody was inclined to tune in - to show them the power of the SRA and the solidarity it had with the Victorian people. After all, what better way to prove the America that had held slaves had died for good than to show a former colonial nation fighting side by side with the American people, especially Americans born out of a part of the country known for being the core of the Confederacy? The progress was ripe for American propaganda, and that suited them just fine.

OOC: The SRA is deploying the following units to the following territories:

Territory 33:
8 motorized
4 armor
8 artillery
7 fighters
3 bombers

Territory 32:
3 mech
1 armor
1 light infantry
4 artillery
3 motorized
8 fighters
3 bombers

General overview of actions taken:
  • General hour-long artillery assault utilizing tube and rocket artillery
  • General offensive into Territories 32 and 33 utilizing both army and air forces
  • Strategic bombing of identified enemy key positions and infrastructure
  • SEAD/DEAD campaign
  • Misinformation campaign and knowledge of enemy communications due to 3 years of monitoring and active spy satellites over area - feeding false information to enemy command

The Victorian Ascendant Host, under the command of Princess Khadija al Victoria, joined the Americans in their assault on their wayward neighbour. The Victorians, like the Americans, had significant satellite reconnaissance in place before they began their advance, and this was joined by the men and women of the Royal Intelligence Program.

The Host’s advance was aimed at Salt Lake City and areas south of it. The armoured divisions of the Host spearheaded the assault wherever the terrain allowed, supported by mechanized and motorized infantry. The Host’s artillery was held in support for when strikes were called in, and for anti-air purposes.

Perhaps a surprise in the assault was the presence of the Royal Army Pilot Service, fresh returned from their victory in the skies over Iran. The units had resupplied at Victoria’s forward bases before providing a protective umbrella for the Host’s advance. When enemy air units, or anti-air artillery, were found they would be engaged by the appropriate craft of the RAPS. And when the way was opened, the Seraphim would fly.

OOG-
Advance is into territory 32 toward territory 34 (but not entering).

Tactics are your standard combined arms approach. Infantry protecting armour. Armour being used in terrain that isn’t utter shit. Using recon and spies to plan advances and attacks. Aiming for Cheyenne, Denver, and Albuquerque for the major cities.

Air is the standard using air superiority to swat down enemy aircraft. Interceptors to defend against enemy bombers. Ground attack in support of the army. And SEAD against enemy AAA. Bombers are targeting enemy vital infrastructure (ammo and fuel depots, vehicles (tanks, planes, etc) that are still in their bases, etc), units, and industry. Also using sats and spies and SRA reports for their targets.

Breakdown of units is-
The full Host.
12 Fighter units.
5 Bomber units.

With success on all fronts - a successful capture of Cheyenne and Denver from Confederate forces and an absolute mauling of enemy troops in a pocket at Idaho Falls - the Socialist Republics Army was feeling confident. A continued combined offensive was ordered against the corps of enemy units that had survived the fighting, now tracked down to positions in Boise, Idaho. Meanwhile, with American positions in New Mexico and Colorado solidified, another offensive was planned to begin immediately on May 10th of 1965, focused primarily on capturing Las Vegas from the Confederates while Victorian troops sought their victory in Salt Lake City.

Tactics and strategies remained unchanged for the American military - continued satellite surveillance, signals intelligence, and feeding false information to their enemies continued, while artillery hammered Confederate front lines daily. The attached American propaganda corps couldn't get enough of the victories in Montana, showing combat footage as often as they were legally allowed to.

OOC:

Same tactics and strategy as last round of combat.

Troops committed to Territory 34:
3 mech
1 armor
1 light infantry
4 artillery
3 motorized
8 fighters
3 bombers

The massed might of the Óglaigh na hÉireann assembled near the front in preparation for Maor-Ghinearál Ryan to lead Ireland's pride into battle for the first time. The main body of the force would be concentrated on breaking Salt Lake City while a detachment would be sent further south to support the SRA's attack on Las Vegas, under command of Captaen-Ghinearál Mac Niall. They would use armoured spearheads to pierce through enemy territory, followed by infantry and covered by close air support, encircling pockets to be annihilated by towed artillery and tactical bombers. When it came to urban warfare, however, the pace of combat would be much slower, with precision airstrikes and careful block-by-block fighting by mostly dismounted infantry the order of the day. SRA field commands would, of course, be consulted whenever possible for matters of intelligence and coordination.
