The Kazakh Insurgency
Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
The open conflict in the north was a wake-up call to the 1st and 3rd Regiments, with their respective duties of securing the anarchists and pacifying the local fascists. Captaen-Ghinearál Mac Niall decided made the decision that the situation called for a more... pro-active approach to keeping the peace. His orders amounted to shooting first, asking questions second, and would include the destruction of any suspected hostiles. The fascists would be engaged aggressively, with the aim of eradicating any possibility of resistance, let alone active combatants. The aim was to ensure a swift end to the fighting, through fighting. Those were the hopes, at least. Reality quickly settled in, and it would be brutal.

Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
Week 4
Portugal withdraws their forces.
The government campaign against the monarchists and fascists peters out. Despite several large cities and towns held by partisan militias, the government declares that its job is done and the area is now safe from future violence. In spite of this, on Sunday a government convoy traveling from Atyrau to Shymkent is attacked and annihilated by a fascist ambush. It is not known what happened to the members of the convoy or the supplies that were on it. The government refuses to state what was even on the convoy other than a generic "supplies."
German forces disengage from Oral, covered by supporting Soviet forces.
In the south, the PRC begins to work hand-in-hand with the Communist militia in the area to engage the fascists in combat. Intense fighting envelops Aqtau as PRC, Kazakh communist, and fascist forces struggle for control of the city.
The Republic of China finds a cache of weapons in Shymkent. They are almost entirely random, with no rhyme or reason to country of origin or purpose. The weapons are a mixed bag of French examples, modern Japanese and Soviet rifles, and the occasional bazooka of indeterminate origin. Notably, the cache includes heavy mortars and high-explosive ammunition, but they do not match Kazakh army equipment.

Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
Results
After two months, Communist forces cease active combat on all fronts. They quickly switch gears to begin a campaign of providing for those in their territory and bettering their lives ahead of the elections.
Nur Otan drops conflicts with other factions to focus solely on the anarchists in the north.
The Jackals are not sufficiently defeated. They continue to break the law across Kazakhstan.
The Kings of Kazakhstan do not succeed in any of their goals, and remain a two-bit party kindly termed "babbling buffoons."
Fundamentally, the UN failed in their mission. They were not able to curtail violence in Kazakhstan, as even with the presence of UN peacekeepers, combat continued up until the July elections. Many nations sent forces, some withdrew, and even more were fired upon in their mission to maintain peace. Regardless of this, or perhaps in spite of it, the July elections went ahead as scheduled.
The War Brides, shown in purple and known as the party of House al Kazakhstan, take speaker role in the Kazakh parliament. The Kazakh government's party, the Democrats, gain only two seats. Joining them on the left are four delegates from the Kings of Kazakhstan and six delegates from Nur Otan following the elections.
On the right sits seven representatives from the Socialist Resistance, now termed Socialist Party, as well as six Black Jacket representatives and two Communist Party representatives.
---
Following the election and reports that violence - or at least heated tensions - have died down, the German government, working with Swedish and Indian delegates, published a report concerning the conditions seen in Kazakhstan. This report, termed the Adler-Pande Report, is the result of a series of investigations and interviews with those in Kazakhstan. The report makes the following things known:
Finally, China’s efforts to track shipments concludes that caches of arms came from Portugal, the United Kingdom, Republican France, the Kingdom of Italy, Sweden, the Soviet Union, the People’s Republic of China, the SRA, West Turkey, and Mexico. It is highly likely that most of the major powers were directly involved in shipping weapons to Kazakhstan to somebody, but who that somebody is, is unclear.
All points committed to Kazakhstan automatically return. This does not need to be posted in the military movements thread.

This report, termed the Adler-Pande Report, is the result of a series of investigations and interviews with those in Kazakhstan. The report makes the following things known:
- The report notes that American weapons were seen in the hands of numerous militias, but does not conclude that the weapons were supplied by the SRA. Those writing the report believe it is more likely that these weapons were WWII surplus from other nations.
- The report concludes that Irish forces may have negatively influenced events in Kazakhstan, but only speculates on methods used.
- It is confirmed that the United Kingdom sent funds, arms and military assistance to Nur Otan, as well as covertly pressured the Kazakh government to view Nur Otan as a useful counterbalance to the Socialist Resistance and Communists.
- The report confirms that the People's Republic of China acted inappropriately in southwestern Kazakhstan by participating in active combat alongside Communist militias.
- Swedish investigators confirm that there was direct Irish involvement with anarchist militias and communes, and proves that at least nominally, the Irish assisted the Black Jackets on several occasions that went "beyond the scope of peacekeeping and defense of self."
Finally, China’s efforts to track shipments concludes that caches of arms came from Portugal, the United Kingdom, Republican France, the Kingdom of Italy, Sweden, the Soviet Union, the People’s Republic of China, the SRA, West Turkey, and Mexico. Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
After nearly seven years of peace, the stalemate had to end at some point. Something, whether it was the specter of war or the involvement of a foreign nation, had to bring a sledgehammer and shatter the tenuous peace and stability that the UN's intervention brought. For nearly seven years, Kazakhstan's fragile democracy had managed to weather the challenges of balancing radically different ideological goals against one another versus the iron will of the Victorian-backed War Brides.
In 1970, unfortunately, the rumblings of the insurgency that had never truly gone away resurfaced in an ugly and unprecedented manner.
Nur Otan, dissatisfied with House Kazakhstan's decidedly internationalist policies such as granting Victoria air and army bases in Kazakhstan, launched a a massive campaign intended primarily to disrupt the government's ability to maintain its commitments, prevent it from reinforcing its bases across Kazakhstan, and rebuild. The intimate knowledge that Nur Otan's sabotage forces had within the Kazakh government's factories allow them to disrupt production entirely in western Kazakhstan, as well as successfully destroying a joint Kazakh-Victorian tank factory in southwestern Kazakhstan. A firefight lasted over three hours near the Kazakh military's radar outpost at Aqtau, resulting in the Nur Otan's militia forces successfully destroying the outpost and rendering it inoperable.
This was accompanied almost immediately by terrorists that claimed to work with the Kings of Kazakhstan, who detonated a bomb in downtown Shymkent at high noon, killing at least six Victorian soldiers, a dozen civilians, and wounding countless others. The panic caused by the coordinated terror attacks also prompts the closure of dozens of factories near the capital, as well as rendering a Kazakh military base inoperable for some time after a terrorist vehicle-borne improvised explosive detonates almost directly in the middle of the barracks, decimating a Kazakh Army company.
Whether through simmering tensions that boiled over to violence, or the incitement of a foreign power, Kazakhstan's uneasy peace has now been replaced by paranoid turmoil.
OOC: Results will be posted in full in Insurgencies and Unrest thread, but for posterity;
An Insurgency in Territory 202 causes 4 units of Industry and 1 Infrastructure Project to become Damaged. The Insurgency spreads to neighboring Territory 208. It is not eliminated.
A Major Terrorist Attack in Territory 208 causes 3 units of Industry and 1 Infrastructure Project to become Destroyed. The Terrorism spreads to neighboring Territory 202. It is not eliminated.

Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
The Victorian Ascendant Host, under command of Crown Princesses Khadija al Victoria, arrived in Kazakhstan in the wake of the unrest. The Host’s command center was located outside Shymkent, but patrols began along the major roads between Kazakh urban centers.
OOG-
All ground and air units for the Ascendant Host are moved to Kazakhstan.

Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
Two weeks of patrols are uneventful. In the middle of the third week, however, a government convoy headed to Taraz, escorted by the Ascendant Host, finds itself suddenly under attack as IEDs are detonated underneath Victorian and Kazakh vehicles. Gunmen open fire from both sides of the convoy's path, succeeding in disabling another vehicle. By the time air support and heavier-armed reinforcements show up, the insurgents have made off with a Kazakh military supply truck loaded with ammunition and food, however it does come at the cost of at least a dozen insurgents killed. It is not known where the insurgents went off to in the chaos.

Re: The Kazakh Insurgency
Nur Otan clearly had been building up for a new attack for some time - the raids on government convoys and breaks between subsequent attacks clearly indicated a renewed attack was in store. By now, Nur Otan's insurgency spread to cover nearly every part of Kazakhstan, with the Kazakh government unable or unwilling to maintain peace and fight back. The Ascendant Host, however, was a tool used primarily to topple governments and destroy armies in open battle, and its arrival most certainly heralded a pause in fighting. Or at least, it did until the insurgents and terrorists felt brave enough to challenge the right hand of Queen Catharine herself.
On the morning of February 2nd, the frost was churned up by the advancing militiamen of Nur Otan as they assaulted Atyrau, seizing the city for themselves and quickly installing their own form of government. Kazakh army units retreated without a fight according to fascist propaganda, though the resulting counterattack resulted in losses that the Kazakh military refused to comment on. Seizing Atyrau now meant Nur Otan could conduct trade with the outside world, or at least nominally. Reports quickly flooded in that claimed Nur Otan militiamen had been spotted as far north as Aqtobe, clashing with remnants of anarchist militias that hadn't been suppressed during the last insurgency. Meanwhile in eastern Kazakhstan, Nur Otan militas fought with the Kazakh military in a ten-hour long firefight that even involved elements of the Ascendant Host over the city of Taraz. Like in Atyrau, the Kazakh military refused to release casualty reports and even went as far as to request the Kazakh government implement censorship laws to prevent the press from reporting on the situation in Taraz.
In the west, coordinated terrorist attacks in Oral kill dozens, as well as killing Prime Minister Gulshat Baiseitova, former War Brides First Sergeant. It seemed she was in the city to conduct a review of the city's defenses and was under the protection of a squad of Victorian and Kazakh soldiers. Other casualties in the terrorist attack include two Kazakh military vehicles destroyed, three police stations bombed, and a hospital knocked out of commission. Unconfirmed reports posit the hospital was targeted specifically because it was built by Victorian aid workers and hosted wounded Victorian soldiers.
