COWARDLY TERRORISTS ATTACK PRESTIGIOUS AMERICAN ACADEMY

CHICAGO, IL - Anger. Outrage. Sadness. Those words define the mood of the American people in Chicago following news that Blackwell Academy, the Socialist Republic Army's newest school built to train a new league of American servicemembers to head into the prestigious Airborne, suffered a dastardly and downright evil attack this week. A radical from the so-called "Sons of Liberty," a group of anti-revolutionary terrorists who have no respect for the brave men and women of the American military, detonated a crude pipe bomb on the campus. The explosion has left the Earl Browder Hall, a pinnacle in modern American learning, with a gaping hole in the front, but the most serious damage is psychological. Nearly seven hundred new students were scheduled to join Blackwell Academy for the Spring semester, which has been brought to a grinding halt due to the attack as repair teams work to fix the damage and members of the 26th Infantry Division assist state police in finding and apprehending the perpetrators. Comrades! Do not let the actions of dangerous radicals dishearten you! We can and will rebuild, and we will be stronger for it! Help your local police department bring safety and security to your area today, and sign up for the Community Watch program! Or, better yet, join the Army and become a military police officer! Master the fine art of soldiering and effective, community-based police work while integrating the values and tenets of the People's Army!

FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA - AMERICAN BORDERS NEARLY BACK TO PRE-FLU STATE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Somber celebration is the order of the day in San Francisco, as elements of the surrendered Cascadian Navy and Cascadian Air Force are formally released to civilian life following the establishment of the Socialist Republic of California. The Socialist Republic Army has begun transferring control to civilian administrators, though American military policemen still claim control over the law enforcement sector until a new generation of police officers can be trained to provide safety and security for the American people in California, Oregon and Washington. With the end of the war - which cost the lives of nearly 28,000 Americans and wounded at least triple that many - in the West, the frontier has finally been tamed and the American people can now proudly share in the same dream from New York to San Francisco. Some in Congress wonder whether Dakota and the Riverboat Parishes are next on the list of campaigns, though President Connally has assured Congress that the American military will be entering a period of transition and self-assessment following disastrous results in the recent campaign and "unacceptable losses" incurred during combat.

AMERICAN SCIENCE CONTINUES TO EXPAND AS AERONAUTIC BUILDERS RECEIVE NEW ORDERS

CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Aeronautical Design Company has reportedly received orders for a series of new and improved satellites, the purpose of which is top secret according to a representative from the Company. An anonymous source has claimed that the new satellites will be able to penetrate buildings to see the contents inside, but technical experts at this paper doubt the veracity of this claim.

CONGRESS ENACTS MARRIAGE EQUALITY ACT

ATLANTA, GA - On February 18th, 1970, Congress officially passed the Marriage Equality Act, which formally recognizes the inherent American rights that gay Americans have, legally recognizing their marriages to their partners and expands benefits to their spouses. "This was a glaring oversight in our society," Congressman Walther Ingol was quoted as saying. "The fact that we would deny any American their rights is beyond horrifying, and while I personally do not know a gay American, it is my sincere hope that they will rejoice upon hearing this news." Per this Act, same-sex marriage is considered lawful in all 34 Socialist Republics, and attempts to bar or otherwise impede these guaranteed rights is illegal and carries with it hefty fines and punishments.

KAZAKH PM KILLED IN TERRORIST ATTACK; CONGRESS RESPONDS "GOOD RIDDANCE"

ORAL, KAZAKHSTAN - Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Gulshat Baiseitova was killed last week in a terrorist attack in the city of Oral, in western Kazakhstan. The opportunistic criminal turned radical politician who illegally seized power in Kazakhstan has passed, and while the future of Kazakh democracy is in question, we in America fully believe the power of socialism will prevail even as fascist brigands wrack the country. The passing of world leaders by violent means is not a new event, unfortunately, but this is a death that Congress has curiously remained silent on. Kazakhstan is a key Victorian ally in Central Asia, and access to the landlocked nation was threatened last year when Syrian and Caucasian naval forces threatened to start a war over the Bosphorus. Victorian diplomacy has won in that arena, but quelling the violent fascists that threaten Kazakhstan's tenuous democracy may not be so easy. Perhaps with the criminal Gulshat Baiseitova removed from power, the Kazakh people can see true prosperity and unity!

CALIFORNIA PROTESTS CAUSE REORIENTATION OF NATIONAL GUARD

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Disgruntled civil servants previously affiliated with Cascadia took to the streets this weekend to protest new orders from local National Guard units concerning curfews and weapon collection ordinances. The protesters, according to interviews with affiliated individuals, claim that these orders conflict with their rights as American citizens to assemble and voice their concerns, as well as infringe on their Second Amendment rights. The commander of National Guard forces in the area, General Andreas Kitchner, said of the protests; "The California Socialist Republic is currently under martial law. This is an order handed down by President Connally himself, which in this specific special circumstance grants the National Guard the right to issue orders which circumvent federal law and may violate certain rights normally granted to American citizens. Until such time as the California Socialist Republic is no longer under martial law, these protesters must disperse or will face federal charges." This response was not well-received in California or in neighboring Washington, which has also seen similar protests in the past few days.

HIGH SPEED RAIL IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE! FIRST RAIL LINES GO DOWN TO CONNECT NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON D.C.

NEW YORK, NY - The National Railroad Passenger Company has begun construction on a newly-developed high-speed rail line between New York and Washington D.C. in its initiative to bring mass transit to the proletariat of two of America's greatest metropolises. Experts predict the new rolling stock, popularly nicknamed "Bullet Trains" due to their distinct shape and high speed, can reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, drastically cutting down the time needed to transit the route between America's financial center and its historic capital. The line is expected to be completed by June 1973.

KAISER-FRAZER AUTOMOTIVE DISSOLVED

DETROIT, MI - News is breaking that Kaiser-Frazer Automotive has been nationalized and subsequently dissolved by Congress due to the results of the Stanislaw Commission, which investigated reports of critical fundamental design flaws in the Kaiser-Frazer C250 sedan. The C250 has been plagued with issues ever since its introduction in 1969, from reliability problems stemming from the V6 engine to reports of explosions in traffic accidents. The Stanislaw Commission found that American executives in charge of design and production of the C250 knowingly allowed production of a flawed vehicle, and attempted to cover up reports that stated the vehicle was anything but in perfect working order.

No Victorian employees have been accused of wrongdoing.

CONGRESSWOMAN MELISSA KAUR ANNOUNCES 1974 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

ATLANTA, GA - Congresswoman Melissa Kaur (MT) has formally announced her 1974 Presidential Campaign today. Citing a lack of confidence in President Connally's administration and decrying his "Jekyll & Hyde-esque" diplomacy with the world at large, her campaign has already garnered support in New England and in the former Cascadia, where opponents to President Connally are rampant. If her campaign succeeds, Kaur would be the first non-Southerner elected to national office since the Socialist Republic's establishment in 1945.

REBUILDING OF CALIFORNIA CONTINUES; CEDA HQ ESTABLISHED IN NEW YORK

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Much fanfare surrounds the construction of new apartment blocks in San Francisco, Fresno and Sacramento, three major California cities devastated by combat and still in the process of being revamped and rebuilt. As part of these efforts, the SR Army Corps of Engineers has joined forces with civilian construction outfits to build new high-rise apartment complexes and offices around the state. These new, modern, and ultimately free housing will provide the people of California, languishing under inadequate homes built by predatory Cascadian construction conglomerates, with the advantages they need moving forward to succeed in life.

Meanwhile in New York City the official headquarters for the Civil Emergency and Defense Agency, or CEDA, has been established. This new facility, expected to be completed in 1975, will host state-of-the-art medical equipment and a highly skilled and ever-expanding team of scientists and doctors to ensure the American people will never again be caught unawares by disasters and disease, man-made or not.

AMERICAN PEOPLE TO BE "WEANED OFF" OIL FOR MOST USES BY 1990, SAY EXPERTS

ATLANTA, GA - Economic policy experts within the government have released a report which indicates more and more Americans favor nuclear and solar energy as the primary means of electrical production in the Socialist Republics, while certain government think tanks have proposed a hydrogen power plants to further aid in abandoning toxic and dangerous fossil fuels that poison the great American environment and the world at large. Under this report, many experts are comfortable with positing that the American people will abandon oil for most civilian uses by 1990, though some caveats are expected for military use.

PRESIDENT CONNALLY ANNOUNCES RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

ATLANTA, GA - President Alexander Connally has announced this afternoon his bid for re-election, with several supporters and close aides such as Secretary of Defense Valentine Howse and Congressman Ian Uhnler (VT) convening a fundraising campaign formally titled the Committee for the Re-Election of the President. It is expected this campaign will meet stiff resistance from Mrs. Kaur's own campaign which has significant support in the West and Midwest in contrast to Connally's Deep South popular base.

COWARDLY TERRORISTS WREAK HAVOC IN ARIZONA, NEVADA

CARSON CITY, NV - Shock and outrage! Armed bands of brigands exchanged gunfire with Nevada State Patrol and the National Guard in a series of incredulous and scummy attacks on police headquarters and Communist Party headquarter buildings. The bands of gunmen are believed to be Cascadian ultranationalists and fascists who refuse to let the past die, with their path taking them north towards Idaho and Montana after a string of attacks in Arizona left a dozen police officers dead and two National Guard soldiers wounded. It is the hope of this paper that, if elected President, Congresswoman Kaur can put an end to these cowards swiftly and personally!

OREGON PROTESTS REACH SECOND WEEK

PORTLAND, OR - Protests against the revocation of "certain rights and liberties" in Oregon have reached a head as soldiers from the 82nd Airborne clashed with protestors in downtown Portland this past weekend. No injuries are reported, although one protestor was treated for a minor head wound. According to a civil rights group approved by Portland's Communist Party representatives, the protests center around the seizure of hundreds of firearms over the previous months by order of the Military Governor.

MYSTERIOUS "SOMBRA COLLECTIVE" BEHIND ATTACKS IN CALIFORNIA, NEVADA

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a new report which indicates that recent terror attacks in California, Arizona and Nevada were not solely the work of Cascadian nationalists, but rather were "aided and abetted" by an unknown third party which has been identified as the Sombra Collective. This so-called "Collective" is apparently made up of at least a hundred identified foreign nationals and at least thirty American citizens while the FBI believes that the Collective has been active in the SRA for "at least a decade." Anonymous FBI sources also state that they believe this Collective has been responsible for other terrorist attacks worldwide, such as the 1966 fascist insurrection in Moscow and the assassination of Croatian Chairwoman Marija Grabovac. Comrades, do not be dissuaded by the acts of this shadowy clan! Hound those who have known ties to the Collective, and force them to turn their back on the traitors and thieves they have aligned with! If you believe somebody you know is part of the Sombra Collective, report them at once!

FIRST WEEK OF CONGRESSIONAL HEARING OVER NAVAL EXPENDITURES

ATLANTA, GA - Top Navy admirals met with members of Congress today as the first round of hearings is underway to address the American people's concerns that the Navy's "obsession with unproven and expensive technology" is at fault with the delays and lack of preparedness seen with the new Belleau Wood class aircraft carrier, California class cruiser, and Spruance class destroyer. "The American people deserve to know why ships that are not fit for active combat are being sent to roam the Pacific," said Congressman John Cox of Illinois. The Navy has maintained that it was well aware that some components of the ships would not be prepared, such as its main weapons and fighter jets, but that Grumman and Newport News Shipyard, the primary designers of the new ships and the Belleau Wood's carrier air group, informed the Navy that the ships were ready for service. "There's always a period of testing and correcting when building a new, modern ship for any Navy," said Admiral Connor Jarvis. "The chief designers behind the nexus of the new Pacific Fleet told us in the Navy that our ships were ready. We were just as surprised and outraged when we set sail and half of our weapons don't work, our anti-air weapons are sailors standing on deck with rifles, and the planes we were promised don't even have guns."

Reports from Congress indicate that most members of Congress are not impressed by this explanation. Executives from Newport News Shipyard and Grumman are expected to appear before Congress on Tuesday.

AMERICANS ON THE MOON - FLAG OF THE SOCIALIST REPUBLICS PLANTED FIRMLY ON MOON'S SOIL

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL - Rejoice, comrades! American science reaches a new achievement once again as American astronauts Peter Ward and Naomi Clark become the first humans to walk on the Moon's surface. The culmination of years and years of hard work by NASA has brought two Americans to the Moon, a landmark achievement as the first man and woman walked hand-in-hand to the final frontier of the world itself. "This is a small step for a human," Clark is quoted as saying upon stepping upon the surface, "but one giant leap for humanity."
