Summary
Korea emerged from the Second World War, in a word, shattered. Barely a state, existing only through American support, and struggling to find an identity as a country. Now, it's still pretty mangled, but has effectively dragged itself up by its bootstraps and is finally sorting itself out.
Basing itself on a Western democracy (not entirely taking from the American system, to the irritation of many of the Americans present in Korea), the people of the peninsula have developed a rather strong dislike of fascism - and, for that matter, communism, which they see as the same thing with a different coat of paint.
